Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Quid-E-Azam) was born at Wazir Mansion near Karachi most likely on 25th December 1876. Returning from England to Karachi in 1886, he found that his father’s business had suffered losses and he decided to depend on himself. Jinnah started his legal practice in Bombay as the only Muslim Barrister in Karachi but in a few years of work he proved himself as a lawyer.

Jinnah first joined politics by participating in the Indian National Congress party in 1906 at Calcutta which was called for dominion status and later for independence for India. In 1920 Jinnah resigned from the congress to follow a campaign of satyagraha which is regarded as a political disorder. In 1940 Jinnah had come to believe that the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent should have their separate state. In that year the Muslim league passed the resolution under the leadership of Jinnah by demanding a separate nation.
During the Second World War, the Muslim League gained strength while leaders of the Congress were put away, and in the elections which were held for short time after the War most of the seats has been won reserved for Muslims. Finally, the Congress and the Muslim League could not make a power sharing formula for the subcontinent to be united as a single state. But Jinnah led his movement and tenacity that ultimately both the Congress and the British Government have no option but to agree to the partitioning of India. Thus Pakistan emerged as an independence day on 14th August 1947.
As the first Governor-General of Pakistan, he worked to establish the new government and policies and aid to the million migrated Muslims from India to Pakistan after independence by supervising in person the establishment of refugee camps. Jinnah died in September 1948 at the age of 71 years. He left a deep and respected inheritance in Pakistan. Many universities and public buildings in Pakistan bear Jinnah’s name.
